The Bruins need scoring and they don’t have much cap space. So when a cost-effective opportunity presented itself on Saturday, they took it. The B’s, ranked 29th in offense (2.48 goals per game), claimed one time 11th overall pick Oliver Wahlstrom off waivers from the New York Islanders.

At times, Oliver Wahlstrom seemed to have nine lives with the Islanders. Finally, though, his career with the club that drafted him in the first round six years ago came to an end on Saturday, as Wahlstrom was claimed off waivers by the Bruins.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Bruins have claimed Wahlstrom from the Islanders. With the Bruins needing help at the right wing position, it is understandable that they are taking a shot on a young forward like Wahlstrom.

Former Boston College Eagles men’s hockey forward Oliver Wahlstrom is joining the Boston Bruins organization. The 24-year-old was claimed off waivers by the Bruins on Saturday afternoon just one day after the New York Islanders placed him on waivers.
