As unprecedented wildfires raged through Los Angeles, some firefighters suddenly lost access to water. City officials called one shortage a “worst-case scenario”—one they expect to see again in the future.

No air support meant immense pressure on the hydrant system - which simply was not designed for the volume of fire we're seeing in Los Angeles.

Local officials say that was driven by an incredible demand on a municipal water system not designed for fighting fires.
