Hamas has yielded to two of Israel’s key demands for a cease-fire deal in Gaza, raising hopes of an agreement within days despite the repeated collapse of previous talks.

Hamas has reportedly agreed to allow Israeli troops to remain in Gaza in a major about-turn that could unblock a hostage deal.

The Hamas government struggles to maintain its authority over Gaza amid death, destruction, severe food shortages and decimated administrative and security forces.

The Israeli military on Wednesday said that a February strike on Khan Younis in southern Gaza may have led Hamas militants to execute six hostages.
