The National Weather Service in Cleveland's lake-effect snow warning for Erie County extends until Friday at 7 a.m.

On Tuesday at 3:20 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning valid from Wednesday 4 p.m. until Thursday 4 p.m. for Northern Erie and Southern Erie.

For the lake to freeze, temperatures need to be consistently cold, so the surface temperature of Lake Erie can drop to the mid-30s. Right now, some of the shallow waters near Sandusky have reached that range, but the water near Cleveland is still in the 40-degree range.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz declared a State of Emergency for all of Erie County due to the snow. Bill Geary, the county's commissioner of Public Works, joined Voices to discuss conditions across the county.

An intense band of lake-effect snow set up Thursday morning over the Interstate 90 corridor off the shores of Lake Erie between Erie, Pennsylvania and Hamburg, New York, causing dangerous driving conditions during the morning rush.
