Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has been named the Falcons new defensive coordinator, returning to Atlanta where he coached as an assistant from 2015 to 2020.

This is the first time since 2013 that the Rams didn't have Aaron Donald leading the defense, as the former defensive star retired before the season. While many people believed Los Angeles would take a step back without the future hall-of-famer, the Rams instead remade their defense by nailing draft selections.

In a rather surprising move, the Atlanta Falcons have announced that they're making a chance at defensive coordinator. According to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Falcons are firing defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake after just one year with the team.

“The light at the end of the tunnel for us, despite how bad and poor we played on defense or anywhere is the quarterback,” Morris said. “Michael Penix is certainly outstanding. He certainly one of the guys that's going to play in this league and absolutely dominate for us as long as we allow him.”

The Atlanta Falcons have interviewed seven candidates for their defensive coordinator vacancy, and six share the same trait: experience with NFL play-calling.

By the time Rams head coach Sean McVay promoted Shula to coordinator last winter after spending seven seasons coaching all three levels of the defense, he was more comfortable embracing his lineage. And during OTAs in the spring, former Cowboys coach Jason Garrett advised him to stay comfortable in who he is.

Morris has a second chance to get his defensive coordinator hire right. He needs to go after someone with more job-specific experience than his first hire had.
