A new wildfire was reported today at 8:48 p.m. in Los Angeles County. Coarse Fire has been burning on private land. At this time, the containment status is unknown and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Mandatory evacuations are underway outside Los Angeles after the Franklin Fire ignited on Monday night and continues to explode in size. Forecasters had been concerned that the Santa Ana winds would bring the “highest possible” fire danger to the majority of Los Angels and Ventura counties in Southern California.

Franklin Fire initially started 10:50 p.m. Dec. 9 in Los Angeles County. Since its discovery 47 hours ago, it has burned 4,037.2 acres. As of Wednesday evening, a crew of 1,974 firefighters effectively contained 7% of the fire.
