U.S. stocks closed out the trading week near the unchanged mark in a subdued session on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Dow posting weekly declines, while the Nasdaq secured its fourth consecutive week of gains.

"Higher rates are causing a sell-off in non-tech stocks which is offsetting the strength of AVGO," Hatfield said, referencing the ticker symbol for Broadcom. The chip stock was the top performer in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 on Friday.

Major stock indexes were wavering between slight gains and losses Friday afternoon, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average on track to record losses for the week as a post-election rally loses momentum.
